Today we say goodbye to our three overseas players for season 2024/25. The club expresses its sincere gratitude for how these gentlemen have carried themselves this summer. Embracing our club and community and all significantly contributing to our success on and off the field this season. It is sad to see you go but we wish you all the very best for your home seasons and futures beyond.

Unfortunately, our 1s were beaten on the weekend and thus brings an end to our season 1 game short. Fair play though to Burwood who were too good across the weekend and deserved the win.

Despite the sad end, it was an incredibly successful season as we broke our premiership drought winning both 24s and the one day competitions. The first time in 25 years a club has won an Under 24s and First Grade competition in the same season. We couldn’t get the elusive triple, but this breakthrough season shows the club is heading in the right direction. With the strong youth in the club, there is more success on the horizon.

Keep an eye out for details for our seniors preso night where we get to celebrate the season that was. We look forward to next season where we chase more trophies and perhaps get the chance to make some history #COYC

Our 1s take on Burwood in the Semi Final this weekend. It would be great to get a crowd to Rothwell to cheer the boys into the grand final #COYC

We go 1 from 2 in our quarter finals on the weekend.

1s are through to the semi finals being the higher placed team and only needing to avoid defeat. Some stoic batting saw us bat for 122 overs and 4 early wickets meant the game was only going one way. Auburn played out the draw with the other results in their favour.

2s were sent in on a wicket that was offering plenty to good bowling. Getting rolled for 37 was followed by a glimmer of hope as we bowled Burwood out for 77. But another poor batting display saw our boys bow out of finals. A great effort to get into finals in the first place and a lot of promise shown by our young bowling attack has the boys already looking forward to next season.

Round 13 Results 📣

Our top two grades are into finals!

First grade cruised to the 6 points 1 down, pushing on for an unlikely 10 but running out of time. Our 1s finish in 3rd place and head into finals with lots of momentum.

Result of the round was second grade, who after seeing other games not go their way, realised that 6 points wasn’t going to be enough after all. Getting a bit of a first innings lead, an outstanding bowling and fielding performance saw our boys bowling Strathfield out for a second time and needing 80 runs off 13 overs. 10 overs later, the boys had 10 points and had jumped from 8th up to 5th and into finals. What a finish to the regular season.

Unfortunately, the season is over for 3s, 4s and 5s but some promising performances give lots of hope for next season.

Follow along as we cheer our 1s and 2s boys on in their finals campaign. 2 premierships already this season but I’m sure we can make room for 2 more #COYC

Lane Cove now hold both limited overs titles after our Under 24s heroics a few weeks ago. In doing so, we are the first club in Shires history to win both 1s and 24s one day flags.

After losing the first round, our 1s went undefeated in the one day comp including a big bonus point win in the last round to get into finals. We then knocked off 1st and then 2nd in dominant performances to be left lifting the trophy.

A massive effort from the boys and all involved in the club. A lot of hard work went into this feat and it’s great to see the boys reaping the rewards. What a season it is turning out to be for the Covies. But with two day finals starting next weekend, we’re not finished yet #COYC

Round 12 Wrap Up

1s had a big outright win to clinch a finals berth with one round still to go. The boys move up to third and are looking to maintain the right to host for the first week of finals.

A dominant performance on Sunday saw the boys punch their ticket to the big dance this coming Sunday 23rd.

Winning the toss and batting, Gray, Bryant and Roughley all scored 50s with Ravi bashing 33* off 13 to get us to 273 after our 50 overs. Whilst Strathfield got off to a reasonable start, our Pommy spin twins Egleston and O’Donoghue took control of the middle overs taking 3 wickets each to get us the chocolates.

It is our 1s first appearance in a grand final since the famous 2011/12 premiership. Congratulations boys and good luck on Sunday #COYC

After 18 long years of watching other clubs play in the Under 24s grand final, in season 2024/25, the Frank Gray Shield is ours once again.

In what was a stellar season with some amazing wins, the boys capped it off with an outstanding performance in the grand final to win by 31 runs.

Thank you to Warringah for hosting and commiserations on the result. It was an awesome day your club put on and your boys played some great cricket throughout the season and especially in the final to make it such an entertaining game.

In a match that saw lots of Covies chipping in to contribute, two stood above the rest. Ryan Devine bashed an outstanding 64 when we were in a bit of trouble to get us to what turned out to be a winning total. But the man of the match, with incredible figures of 4 for 25 off his 10 overs was Freddie Egleston.

Hopefully it’s not as long a wait for the next one! #COYC

The rain had reduced the game to 34 overs each. Losing the toss and getting sent in, our boys made 8/163. Mikey O’Donoghue top scoring with a run a ball 57. Then our bowlers went to work. Joe Scarcella and Ravi Ravi were at their clinical best, reducing Warringah to 7/28. We ended up bowling Warringah out for 54 to secure a massive bonus point win. Ravi was the pick of our bowlers finishing with figures of 4 for 8 off 7, including the ripper in the video (good hands from Rig at 1st slip!)

The huge win shoots us up into 3rd on the overall ladder. It also qualifies us for the one day finals with the semi final on Feb 16th. The bye for our boys this round but some big games around the corner for our 1s as we chase both pieces silverware #COYC

In 24s first game of the season, our skip lachy.roughley scored 115 to lead our boys to 6/305 and a big bonus point win. Unfortunately, the century celebrations were missed but the video shows the measured 50 acknowledgment with a job still to do. A great start for Lachy and our 24s as they have their second game against arch rivals Lindfield this Sunday #COYC
